Five groups of inputs to prepare

Input group Information to provide What it determines
Device and structure Application, space, drawings and mating direction. Head envelope, cable exit and device fit.
Electrical Voltage, continuous/peak current, polarity and pin functions. Circuits, thermal behavior and voltage drop.
Cable Input, length, diameter, jacket, flexibility and color. Handling, bending and conductor requirements.
Environment Moisture, corrosion, temperature and cleaning. Materials, sealing boundaries and verification.
Project Sample purpose, quantities, packaging and traceability. Development, pilot and production scope.

Specify magnetic behavior, not just a force number

Balance secure seating and retention with controlled release. Distinguish axial separation from side peeling and include cable load, device weight, pull direction and user action. Guides, stops and contact compression remain part of the mechanical design.

Define the assembled ingress requirement

State the head, receptacle and enclosure configuration, exposure fluid, test duration, pressure or depth where applicable, and acceptance criteria. A picture or cable-only claim does not establish a finished-device ingress rating.

Use five approval stages

  • Review available inputs and feasibility.
  • Approve the drawing, pin map and sample scope.
  • Build samples and check structure and electrical function.
  • Verify assembled performance and close findings.
  • Release controlled documents, inspections and pilot-production requirements.

Send the available information first

If drawings are incomplete, provide samples, photographs, dimensions and a functional description for the initial review. Mark assumptions and missing inputs explicitly; final production still needs approved requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Can the review start without complete drawings?

Yes. Samples, photos and dimensioned sketches can support the first discussion. Approved documents are required before production release.

Is the maximum current enough to select the cable?

No. Include continuous load, peak duration, ambient conditions, thermal limits and the complete circuit path.

Can an old project specification be copied?

Use it as a reference only. The new device, interface, environment and acceptance criteria require their own review.
