Small interfaces must be reviewed as complete assemblies
Watches, bands and health-monitoring wearables combine limited space with frequent charging. Review the device curvature, receptacle, contact compression, magnets and cable head together. Self-alignment is useful only when the contacts seat correctly and remain stable.
A charging-only dock and a dock carrying status or service data may need different pin assignments, conductors, shielding and tests even when they look similar.
Wearable project input checklist
- Device envelope, PCB or FPC position, mating direction and enclosure tolerances.
- Normal and peak current, voltage, polarity, pin assignment and temperature-rise limits.
- USB-A, USB-C or custom input; communication protocol, grounding and shielding where required.
- Sweat, cleaning agents, moisture, expected mating frequency and storage conditions.
- Cable length, softness, color, exit direction, bend radius and controlled release force.
Validate docking, cleaning and daily handling
Confirm contact resistance and continuity in the assembled device. Define suitable pull, bending, repeated mating and environmental checks for the actual use case. Record the sample revision, installation state, conditions and pass criteria; do not treat a component image as an ingress-protection rating.

Can the head follow a curved wearable enclosure?
The shape, locating features and cable exit can be evaluated against the device drawing. Confirm fit and contact compression on an assembled sample.
Does a magnetic interface automatically resist sweat?
No. Materials, plating, seals, cleaning exposure and the complete assembly must be evaluated under agreed conditions.
Can the dock carry charging and data?
This can be evaluated after the protocol, pin assignment, cable construction and full device channel are defined.
