Black contacts usually mean base material oxidation after plating wear, or a black film formed when sulfide or chloride residue reacts with the plating. Light oxidation does not affect use, because contact pressure pierces the film, but if it comes with intermittent charging or heating, the contact resistance already exceeds the limit.
Handling and prevention: clean the contacts with an anhydrous alcohol swab and never sand them, which accelerates plating wear. On the product side we can increase gold thickness (0.05 µm and above) and add contact sealing and dust caps. For humid or sweat environments such as wearables and medical devices, tell us at the selection stage so that plating and sealing can be specified to the environment class.
