A Pogo Pin is a precision electrical contact with spring travel, consisting of a plunger, a barrel, a spring and a retaining structure. Pushed by the spring, the plunger moves within a defined range and presses against the mating contact to build the electrical path. Compared with a rigid pin, its key advantage is tolerance compensation: even when the two mating surfaces have angular or positional deviation, the travel compensates automatically and keeps contact stable.
SMT means surface mount: the barrel has a solder pad or ground plate at the bottom and is reflow-soldered onto the PCB, suitable for automated placement and thin devices. DIP means through-hole: the tail is inserted into the PCB hole and fixed by wave or hand soldering, giving stronger mechanical retention and pull-off resistance for applications with mating stress or vibration. Which one to use depends on assembly process, board thickness and force direction; we build both terminations.
